WHO AM I?
I’m Liz McDonnell the owner of Complement Communications.
WHERE DID I GET MY START?
I started out in newspapers over 20 years ago first in advertising, then jumping over to the editorial side. I worked with my clients in the planning and execution of advertising campaigns. I researched marketing trends, media developments, social needs, and even the origin of how the Scots became known as frugal (and everything in between). I edited anywhere from 40-word posts to multi-page creations. I wrote about My Ugly Garden. I created editorial calendars. And, I connected readers to the newsroom to ensure accountability. As my time in newspaper closed, I moved to the digital world working on a number of websites from launch and testing to maintenance. I taught writing, communication, media, even animal advocacy and care. And, I worked on major events. All of this experience provided me with a solid understanding of how to best serve my customers, no matter my role or the customer’s need.
WHAT DO I BELIEVE?
Communication is the key to our world.How we speak. If we make eye contact or we look away. Do we listen with the intention of listening or only to respond? How we write to people or about people. The images we capture and subsequently share.How we communicate can make or break any relationship, business or personal.
